Windsurf & SUP Schule Badhuus Thunersee is the school of the SURF & SUP Verein Badhuus Gunten, an association based in the former bathing pavilion (Badhuus) of the old Hotel Du Lac, right on the water at the entrance to Gunten (municipality of Sigriswil), on the sunny north shore of Lake Thun. The association provides its members with a clubroom, racks for boards and sails, a garage for equipment, toilets, direct access to the lake and a motorboat for rescues. In the club list published on windsurf.ch it appears as "Segelsurfclub Gunten Thunersee", with the same website and the same president: it is one and the same organisation. The site is also used as a training base by the MSV Rescueteam Thun and the SLRG lifesaving section of Muri-Gümligen.
The school has taught winging since 2020: a 3-hour basic course (age 14 and over, maximum 4 people) on windsurf boards with a daggerboard or SUPs fitted with anti-drift fins, without a foil, using light F-One wings and a syllabus based on VDWS level 1; this is followed by one-hour training sessions (maximum 3 people) inside the school area, watched over by the instructors, and then private wing foil lessons (1 or 2 people) to learn to fly on the foil. It also runs windsurfing courses (6-hour basic course from age 10, 9-hour improvers' course including the SWAV basic certificate exam), 90-minute pump foil introductions (from about age 12) and stand up paddle courses, including Paddlefit sessions. Instructors hold the licence of the Swiss windsurfing training association (SWAV) and, for SUP, that of the Swiss canoe federation (SKV); they are SLRG lifeguards (Pool Plus and lake module). Courses run in any weather except thunderstorms, too much or too little wind.
The team gives advice on and sells windsurfing, SUP, foil and wing equipment (NSP, F-One, Duotone, Fanatic, BIC, SIC, RRD, Prolimit, Howzit, Restube). Together with the sevensurf shop in Steffisburg, F-One and Ozone wing foil and parawing gear can be tested on site, at weekends and by appointment, by riders who can already foil on their own. Rental is limited to beginner equipment (daggerboard boards of at least 160 litres, 3 to 5 m² sails) for students. The school is run by volunteers who work full time: lessons, tests and rentals take place at weekends only. During the summer school holidays a small beach kiosk opens on weekend afternoons in fine weather, and the Badhuus can be hired from May to September for parties of up to 25 people.
