Yacht & Surf Club Alexandroupolis

The Alexandroupoli Yacht & Surf Club is the sailing section of the Fans of the Sea Club of Alexandroupoli, founded in 1993. The club sits on the beach side of town, two minutes from the centre and in front of the lighthouse, with free parking for members and students, showers, changing rooms, a classroom, equipment storage, safety boats and an online weather station with webcam.

It offers kitesurf courses under IKO affiliation (private or in groups of 2-3, minimum age 16, with rescue boat and radio for the higher levels), windsurf courses (from taster to advanced drills with a boat and video coaching), dinghy sailing, SUP and offshore yacht skipper courses. The club's head, Nasos Didaskalou, holds a degree in sport science and is an instructor in offshore sailing, windsurfing, kitesurfing, dinghy sailing and swimming, and a professional lifeguard who speaks English and French.

The club says it set up the offshore yachting school of Alexandroupoli in 2004 and the most fully organised windsurf and kitesurf academy in northern Greece in 2016. It reports north-northeast winds (meltemi), westerlies of 10 to 15 knots on hot summer days, and strong southerlies and easterlies, with good conditions all year round.
