Surf Palermo

Surf Palermo is a surf school based at the Lido dei Carabinieri on Viale dei Saraceni in Isola delle Femmine, about 20 km west of Palermo. Its instructors hold international ISA certifications and are authorised to teach wave surfing and other water sports in Sicily.

Lessons last about one hour and include wetsuit, board, wax and safety leash. Each session has a theory part (10 to 30 minutes: water safety, reading weather and sea conditions, finding the exit channel and best take-off point) and a practical part with warm-up. The basic course is a package of six lessons, followed if desired by a surf camp that includes training out of the water. Students start on soft-tops, malibus, hybrid boards or shortboards depending on the conditions.

The school waits for favourable conditions and usually gives 48 hours' notice; it takes students to several beaches and surf spots, rents boards and wetsuits, and offers surfskate.
