Canterbury Windsports Association

The Canterbury Windsports Association (CWA) brings together windsurfers, wingers, kiters and foilers in the Canterbury region. It started in the early 1990s as the Canterbury Windsurfing Association and took its current name in 2005 as kiting grew.

It is an incorporated association with three membership levels (junior, senior and family). Members meet at events, and the membership gives the association weight with local authorities when it comes to keeping access to its riding locations. It is affiliated with Windsurfing New Zealand.

In summer the CWA runs a youth windsurf programme with Naval Point Yacht Club in Lyttelton. It also has learner windsurf and kitesurf gear available to members. The website also covers local spots, an events calendar, safety advice and travel information.
