Southern Lakes Windriders Club

The Southern Lakes Windriders Club brings together windsurfers, kitesurfers and wing foilers in Queenstown and Wānaka. The club maintains and develops rigging and launch sites, works with local and central government to protect access to them, and runs social events.

Each year it holds an open day at Frankton Beach with windsurf lessons, a barbecue and demo gear, plus a major summer event: either a long downwind run with rescue support or a weekend of on-water activities. From mid-January to the end of March, Wednesday evening barbecues are held at Frankton Beach with beginner and improver windsurf sessions.

The club website lists the local spots, live weather stations and an events calendar for the 2026-2027 season, including the Aviemore Classic gathering on 1 January.
