Description
The Kernow Kitesurf Club (KKC) is Cornwall's kitesurfing club (Kernow is the Cornish name for the county). Affiliated to the BKSA, the British Kitesurfing Association, its aim is to protect access to the county's kitesurf spots by promoting safe practice and engaging with the public and local authorities.
The club was created to overturn a kitesurfing ban at The Bluff, at the mouth of the Hayle river, imposed by the harbour authority. It has since helped maintain access at Hayle, Gwithian and Perranporth. A Bluff Pass is needed to kite at The Bluff, and some spots carry seasonal restrictions, for example Daymer Bay and Hawkers Cove, where kitesurfing is banned from 10am to 6pm in July and August.
Beach representatives (Par, Marazion, The Bluff, Perranporth, Daymer Bay) act as contacts for members. The website publishes a spot guide, safety advice and a code of conduct, and the club runs events, meet-ups, discounts with local businesses and a training subsidy.
