SegelSurfClub Werdenberg

SegelSurfClub Werdenberg (SSW) is a windsurfing club founded in 1982 in the Werdenberg area, around Buchs, in the St. Gallen Rhine valley; it has around fifty members. Its home water is the Walensee: the club rents a spot from the municipality of Mühlehorn in the small bay of Tiefenwinkel, where its gear shed stands, and also sails at Murg, on the same shore.

The focus remains on windsurfing. Every year the club runs an introductory weekend on the Walensee, open to young people and adults even without their own gear, one-week windsurf camps for young people aged 14 and over in Domaso, on Lake Como, led by Jeunesse+Sport instructors (25th edition in 2026), and weekend training sessions at Murg and Tiefenwinkel. Members can use the club's gear on the Walensee and store their own there.

Several members also wingfoil, and sometimes kite, during club outings: event reports mention a wing at the end-of-season outing on the Walensee in 2023, then wingfoiling and kiting at the season-opening weekend on Lake Como (2024-2025 annual bulletin). The club's own courses, however, cover windsurfing only. Off the water, the club organises a ski day and a Christmas dinner, runs a stand at the Buchs town festival, which funds a large part of its activities, and sends a Walensee wind alert via Telegram.

• Individual member: 65
• Family, including children under 16: 100
• Passive member: 20

Use of the club's gear on the Walensee: 100 per year per person (club website, 2026). Active members take part in events free of charge and get a discount on the camps; attendance at the general meeting is compulsory.
