KAYU Surfboards, kitesurf craftsman in Canggu
Jl. Pantai Berawa No.101, Tibubeneng, 80361 Canggu · Bali · Indonesia
About the craftsman
KAYU Surfboards makes surfboards and hollow blanks from balsa wood sourced in Indonesia. The brand says it wants to bring back the traditional craftsmanship of hollow wooden surfboards. The blanks are produced in the company's factory in the hills of Central Java, from balsa trees bought from local farmers after four to six years of growth and three months of drying.
The Berawa shop in Canggu displays shortboards, mid-lengths and longboards, as well as custom boards and accessories (t-shirts, helmets). It also hosts local makers of swimwear, jewellery and sunscreen on consignment. Pre-shaped blanks are sold to shapers and shops who want to shape their own board.
