Grain Surfboards, kitesurf craftsman in York

Grain Surfboards is a wooden surfboard workshop in York, in southern Maine. Its boards are designed with 3D modeling and then built by hand with time-honored woodworking techniques and local, sustainable softwoods whose natural grain gives every board its own pattern. The stated aim is boards that have more impact on your surfing and less impact on the environment.

The shop runs workshops in which participants build their own wooden surfboard: the three-day Sick Day, the five-day Camp Grain, a two-day bellyboard or alaia workshop, and private workshops including the five-day Purist. The three-day workshop takes place two blocks from the beach.

Grain also sells custom and in-stock boards, as well as DIY kits for building a board at home, with tools, glues and supplies.
