Zandmotor ("Sand Motor") is a unique man-made peninsula near Kijkduin (The Hague), created to naturally replenish the coastline. It forms a shallow, flat-water lagoon connected to the sea — one of the safest kitesurf spots in the Netherlands. The lagoon depth and size vary with the tides: best at high tide when the pool fills up. Space for approximately 10 kiters at once.
Works with nearly all wind directions (NE to SW). All levels welcome, especially good for beginners and freestyle practice. Summer restrictions apply — read the signage at each beach access point (rules differ between Kijkduin and Monster municipality). ⚠️ Slippery areas around the lagoon — depower kite before walking near the water edge. Several kite schools operate here. Free parking on Machiel Vrijenhoeklaan. 5km south of Scheveningen. Webcam available to check crowding.

Nearly all directions work (NE through SW — almost 270°). The artificial peninsula creates a sheltered lagoon regardless of exact direction. E and SE: less ideal (wind comes from land, turbulence from dunes). Consistent year-round. Best for beginners: light to moderate winds 12–20 knots.
