Rio Dulce

Overview

Rio Dulce is a kitesurfing spot in the Izabal region of Guatemala, on the Rio Dulce river connecting Lake Izabal to the Caribbean Sea. The spot is set in an exceptional natural environment, surrounded by lush tropical jungle and limestone cliffs.

The prevailing wind comes from the northeast via Caribbean trade winds, with more consistent conditions between November and April. The river offers flat water conditions suited for intermediate riders. The water is warm and fresh (river water).

The area is also known for boat tours, wildlife spotting, and visiting Castillo de San Felipe de Lara. Kite schools offer lessons and trips in the region.
