Overview

Beautiful sandy beach for a spot that only works with south-west depression winds. It's a very busy beach during the summer season and its particularity is that the bottom is quite far away. There is no designated kitesurfing area as such, but kiters are tolerated just in front of the parking lot upon arrival. Near the pontoon is where windsurfers go, and after the bridge is the swimmers' area (Swimming zone).
It's a beautiful spot that should be respected so that we can continue to practice without issues.

Spot functioning
The bottom is sandy, so you have the ground very very far away. The best approach is to launch on the beach (Watch out for the poplar trees!) and then walk upwind until you're at a good distance from the shore. It's safer for everyone...
 The other possibility is to walk upwind with the kite in the water and then launch once you're well away from the poplar trees.

On the water
All the way to the left of the beach (looking offshore from the shore), there is a reserve called the bird island. This is a very sensitive area both from a bird protection and political standpoint. So stay at least 500m downwind to pass the island, and under no circumstances (even in case of wind dropping) should you land on it!

Poser le pied bien avant d'arriver au bord et encore une fois, attention aux peupliers qui créer une zone de turbulence au vent jusqu'à 3x leur hauteurs. Donc en cas de doute, larguer votre aile et parckter le tout dans l'eau.
Parking
From Morges, head towards Lausanne via the lake road. Take the second right after the roundabout at the entrance of the village, on Avenue de la Croix de Rive.
Large parking lot next to the Préverenges Surfshop. In summer, security guards regulate the parking, and once the lakeside parking is full, they redirect people to much more distant parking lots.
Wind specificities
Bise (north-east wind): totally irresponsible! The wind shadow from the trees and the 100% offshore direction guarantees an impossible return!
Another important point, this is a south-west spot, so a depression wind that sometimes comes in as squalls with very strong gusts as they approach. Therefore, the good strategy is to always observe upwind what's coming your way. If it looks very dark and you're already well-powered, it's time for you to take a break. If you get caught in very strong gusts, stay offshore with your kite low to the water and wait for it to pass. This is safer than trying to return completely overpowered on an onshore-oriented beach...
Hazards
  • Launch from near the parking lot to the right of the pontoon or at the edge of the swimming area to the left of the pontoon!
  • Swimming area must be strictly respected.
  • Watch out for poplar trees downwind!
  • Also be careful with windsurfers and stand-up paddlers who historically have priority on the left. Check with the Surf Shop if needed!
  • The poplar trees create turbulence upwind (in south-west winds) up to 3 times their height.
