Overview

Murtosa is a popular kite spot on the Ria de Aveiro, a large shallow lagoon 1 hour south of Porto. The lagoon offers flat, shallow water — perfect for beginners and freestyle. Multiple kite spots spread along the Ria: Murtosa, Barra, Costa Nova, and Gafanha. Wind is Nortada NW thermal, less powerful than Viana but more accessible. Water temperature warmer than open ocean. The Ria de Aveiro is famous for its colorful striped houses (Costa Nova) and traditional moliceiro boats.
