Vila Nova de Milfontes is considered the main kitesurf spot of the Alentejo, located at the mouth of the crystal-clear Mira river on the wild Costa Vicentina.

Praia da Furnas is the main beach — a huge stretch of sand to the left of the river mouth. The shallow water extends to a small islet, creating a natural lagoon near the river mouth (flat, warm, beginners), while on the opposite side, waves form for more experienced riders.

The charming town of Vila Nova de Milfontes sits on the cliff above, with its medieval fortress overlooking the beach. The river Mira is incredibly clear and the entire area is within the Parque Natural do Sudoeste Alentejano.

Wind: NW Nortada, but being west-facing coast, it can be offshore. Less reliable for kite than Sines or Fonte da Telha. Works best when the thermal aligns. The region between Sines and Sagres is traditionally surf territory — kites are rarely seen.

Best season: May to September, on days with good thermal alignment.
