Edam / Markermeer is a kitesurf spot on the Markermeer near Edam and Volendam, famous for its cheese and picturesque canals. The spot works almost exclusively with easterly winds — a rare direction that makes it extremely popular when it blows. Small shell beach, narrow grass launch area. Flat to choppy Markermeer water.
⚠️ Narrow launch zone with barbed wire — careful with lines. Rocky shoreline, only ~50m standing depth. Not the most beginner-friendly despite flat water conditions. Very busy on easterly days. BPR inland navigation rules. Free parking on site. Address: IJsselmeerdijk 24, 1473 PP Warder. From Amsterdam: follow N247 direction Edam/Volendam, then right at the roundabout end of Edam.
Flat to choppy Markermeer water. Fresh water lake, no waves or swell. Only ~50m standing depth then deeper. Ideal for freeride and foil.
