Mirns (Mirnser Klif) is one of the top beginner kitesurf spots in the Netherlands, located on the southeastern IJsselmeer shore in Friesland. Unique position behind the bend of the Frisian IJsselmeer coast makes it ideal for SE/S/SW winds — the perfect complement to Workum which needs W/NW. Up to 600–700m of standing-depth shallow water. Very flat conditions, minimal currents. Good southerly thermal winds in summer.
⚠️ Launch zone is small and grassy — slippery. Barbed wire edges the launch area — if unsure, launch from the water instead. Kite zone marked by yellow buoys; north side = protected nature reserve, kitesurfing strictly prohibited. Kiteschools KiteMobile and Antix operate here. Restaurant/café on the clifftop terrace with IJsselmeer views. Camping De Braamberg 100m away.

Launch from the water when the small grassy area is too crowded (barbed wire edges). Stay in the designated south zone. No seasonal restrictions — open year-round. Southerly thermal winds in summer (not always shown in forecasts).
Flat to very light chop. Up to 600–700m of standing depth. Very shallow — too shallow for windsurfing in places. Ideal for beginners, freestyle, foil. Choppy in stronger winds further from shore. Winter: water level drops, stones may appear in shallow areas — wear booties.
