Overview

La Cinta is one of the most iconic kitesurf spots in northeast Sardinia, near San Teodoro. A long narrow sandbar separates the turquoise sea from the San Teodoro lagoon, creating a stunning dual-water landscape. The spot receives the Maestrale (northwest) and the thermal sea breeze (northeast to east) with great reliability in summer. The combination of flat lagoon water and open sea chop makes it suitable for all riding styles. Kite schools operate here in season.

Technical details of spot

Spot functioning map

Spot functioning

The spot splits naturally between the lagoon (La Cinta sandbar) for flat water and the open sea beach of San Teodoro for choppier conditions. Kite schools operate on the lagoon side with designated zones. On the open sea side, self-organisation between riders. The lagoon is accessible on foot over the sandbar or by the road from San Teodoro village.

On the water

Lagoon: flat to slightly choppy water, sandy bottom at 0.5 to 1m, excellent for progression. Sea side: short regular chop of 0.3 to 0.7m with the Maestrale, occasional small breaking waves at the sandbar outlet. Weak current inside the lagoon. The water is crystal clear and warm in summer.

Parking

Parking at the entrance of the La Cinta sandbar, accessible from the SS125 via San Teodoro. Busy in summer — arrive early. Bars and restaurants in San Teodoro village nearby.

Hazards

Strong northerly winds and Maestrale with significant gusts. Rocky shores at both ends — stay in the central sandy section. Boat traffic from the San Teodoro lagoon outlets. No lifeguard service on the wilder northern sections.

Wind specificities

The northeast coast receives both the Maestrale (northwest) and a reliable thermal sea breeze from the northeast in the afternoon. The Maestrale typically builds from 11am to 6pm, 15 to 28 knots. The thermal breeze is lighter (12 to 20 knots) but extremely regular on summer afternoons when the synoptic wind is calm. The combination makes San Teodoro one of the most wind-reliable destinations in northeast Sardinia.
