Over the past few months, numerous updates have been rolling out on Let's Kite and it's time to introduce them to you!
For this first post, I wanted to present one of the most appreciated features by kiters, wingfoilers, and Swiss lake enthusiasts: the D+1, D+2 buttons, etc. on the homepage map.

Incredibly simple to use

Using this feature couldn't be simpler: with just one click, you can instantly see which spots will potentially be rideable in the coming days. Simple, right?

How do we determine if a spot is "rideable"?

Let's Kite uses the best short and medium-term weather models for each region of the world to analyze forecasts spot by spot.
For a spot to be considered rideable:

  • Kitesurfing/Wing/Parawing: Average wind ≥ 8 knots, in the right direction, for at least 3 consecutive hours between sunrise and sunset
  • Snowkite: Average wind ≥ 7 knots, right direction, 3 consecutive hours + minimum 5 cm of snow on the spot
Note: Since snow depth forecasts aren't always very reliable, we use a relatively low value.

8 knots, too much or not enough?

If these minimum wind values or direction don't match your practice, the solution is simple: become a Premium member! You'll then be able to access the Dashboard and create your dream conditions spot by spot, generate your riding schedule, and configure your personalized weather alerts. Plus, you'll be supporting the Let's Kite project whose costs are soaring month after month!

The big news: from 300 to 5,000 spots

Until now, out of the 12,000 spots displayed on Let's Kite, we only had 300 spots for which we knew the optimal wind directions.
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all the contributors over the past few years for this valuable information – keep it up!
Thanks to the latest update, by cross-referencing multiple sources, doing a lot of manual work, and using a touch of AI, we've been able to increase from 300 to 5,000 analyzed spots.

What does this change in practice?

  • Global coverage: Starting now, when you click on D+1, you can see 5,000 spots across the entire planet
  • Extended forecasts: You can see rideable spots up to 5 days in advance (instead of 3 previously)
  • Frequent updates: Data is refreshed every 6 hours to stay as close as possible to reality

Who has access to what?

We have also revised access to features:

  • D+1 and D+2: Accessible to registered users (free)
  • D+3 to D+5: Reserved for Premium users who support the project

This evolution marks an important milestone in the development of Let's Kite. We hope these improvements will help you optimize your sessions and discover new spots!
